Beware Bad host's - did you ask the right questions?

Over time I have had my fair share of hosting dissasters, im releived I now know exactly who to trust. I thought I had asked all the right questions-till 20 of my sites were hacked via a less than honest host. Now, if you have small non scripted sites consisting of basic html pages-and have made back-ups-no problem. I had a lot of very complicated sites, with complex scripts, dynamic pages,databases that were frequently updatted, and serious amounts of content changing daily. I needed to try to back up some of it myself of course-but it was not possible to back it all up. 'No problem' my host promised, we have daily back ups and restore-so your sites could never be hacked and destroyed-not ever. If anything happens-we simply restore the whole thing.We also have such tight security-you wouldn't believe. Happy in my ignorance, I beleived and trusted them. One year later-the unthinkable happend. ALL MY (AND EVEYONE ELSES AT THE HOST) sites were hacked. I saw them and thought-Ok no need to panick-we have system restore-right? Hmm no- well we did, it was only run weekly to save cost, and em we never got round to fitting the external server back ups and the hackers have currupted all the restore features, em I guess your sites are lost forever! In law, as far as I can find it-Its just tough! I had lost a load of expensive and important sites because my host was a liar and penny pinching! Ask questions, if they say they have back ups, test it. Put your site up, say you made an error and ask for a restore. Check they have external back-ups. Ask for this in writting. Never just take their word-or you are the one that will loose all your sites. Technorati Tags:

Dedicated Hosting - a SECRET I WILL ONLY SHARE ON A PERSONAL LEVEL! Let me start by saying-I own and run a lot of sites. I have plans for hosting all over the place and over time, I have learnt from bitter experience, not all hosts are equal!Particularily when you get to the stage of wanting or needing dedicated hosting for anything. I have been through some rotten host (I won't name them they know who they are) and left them real quick. Now-I was reccomended by other webmasters, I guess for their cut of $5.00 mealley dollaors or bonus cheap hosting for a month etc. However everyone I tried was a nightmare. Now-Im happy to say Ive found a great host for dedicated, one I will cling too till I sell all my sites and retire.lol They run-no affiliate schemes,I make no money by reccomending them. I am not even going to post their url here. I don't want to be like those other webmasters, reccomending this and that and not really being genuine in what I say. All services on this site are reccomended by myself.
